Joy and Rest in Community
We regularly organize community events that bring Black, African and Afro-descendent people together across linguistic, cultural and other differences. At these events, it’s also important for us that African Diasporic communities recognize and can create connections with the Afro-Polish community in Poland.
BJP community events are mostly informal social gatherings that facilitate people getting to know each other, making connections, learning from each other, and building a sense of community and belonging. The annual BJP summer BBQ and our end-of-year holiday gathering are the best examples of such events.
We also organize smaller events for specific groups of beneficiaries (e.g. our “Mum2Mum” series for mums with small children) as well as more structured events, such as workshops and trainings on specific topics (e.g. job-seeking in Poland, workers’ rights in Poland, mutual support groups).
Community-building aims
- Curate friendly and inclusive spaces where Black and Afro-descendant people and communities can enjoy time together and celebrate each other,
- Foster a sense of common interest and understanding among Black and Afro-descendent people and communities in Poland;
- Facilitate exchange of information, contacts and networking to create the foundations for lasting relationships.
Mixed Families – We See You!
We dedicate special attention to community-building among multiethnic families in Poland. Our events are spaces to come together, recognize common challenges and learn from each other.
We also invite specialists to run thematic sessions to support parents in mixed and cross-cultural relationships and to strengthen their ability to effectively advocate for their children.
Much of these activities are led by the Association for Multiethnic Families Family Voices.
