Margaret Amaka Ohia-Nowak

(she/her)

Margaret Amaka is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Communication and Media Studies at the Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland. She is also a lecturer in Women’s and Gender Studies (GEMMA) at the University of Łódź. She is a faculty member of the Black Europe Summer School in Amsterdam. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Wroclaw (2015) and an MA in Media Studies from the Jagiellonian University (2009). Margaret is the author of the book Antyczarny rasizm. Język – dyskurs – komunikacja [Anti-Black Racism. Language-Discourse-Communication] (2025) and several academic and popular articles on racism and anti-racism in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. 

She is the 2024 Susan Treadwell Memorial Awardee and the 2024-2025 Obama Foundation Europe Leader. She is the 2025 Emma Goldman Awardee. She has carried out academic projects funded by the National Science Centre, the Fulbright Program, and the European Commission, among others, and has conducted research in Poland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

She combines an academic career with public engagement and a strong activist spirit, comprehensively employing strategies and methods of Black and intersectional feminism. She has primarily advocated for Black, African, and Afro-descendant communities and has been involved in numerous initiatives and projects to promote equity and cultural awareness and create spaces for radical community care. She is a co-founder of the innovative School of Antiracist Practices and the Editor-in-Chief of the Empathic Polish Dictionary. She is a trainer with the Ulex Project in Spain, where she facilitates trainings for social justice activists and movements across Europe. She has worked extensively as consultant and trainer with local and international organizations, including the United Nations, European Parliament, Multitudes Foundation, Freedom House, Climate-KIC, Open Society Foundations, Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy, Prospera International Network of Women’s Funds, Polish Humanitarian Action, Association of Critical Education, and Krytyka Polityczna.

Chemutai Yegon

(she/her)

Chemutai is a Kenyan living in Poland. She is an activist, a community building professional and an educator with 11+ years of experience, mostly in the Republic of Georgia (2012-2015) and in Poland (2015-present), with a focus on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in education.

Chemutai co-founded and is currently Executive Director of the Association of Multiethnic Families Family Voices, a founding organization of the BJP. During her time in Georgia, Chemutai was part of the One Caucasus initiative, an ongoing music festival and peace-building initiative run by the Poland-based Another Space Foundation in partnership with organizations throughout the Caucuses.

Within the BJP, Chemutai is a member of the BJP Executive Board and the Community Building lead; supporting community-building activities and BJP’s educational programs.

Chemutai has a BA in Education from Kenyatta University in Kenya. She also earned the Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) and the Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) Certificate in Teaching English in Pre-Primary Education.

Katarzyna (Kasia) Kubin

(she/her)

Kasia is an academic and activist with nearly two decades of experience designing and managing initiatives and projects that advance social justice and human rights with a focus on racial justice, migrant and refugee rights, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Her academic work focuses on colonial histories and discourses in the region imagined as Central and Eastern Europe. She has (co-)authored, edited and translated work on related topics.

Kasia is a researcher at the University of Warsaw, Centre of Migration Research (Ośrodek Badań nad Migracjami-OBM). She co-founded the Foundation for Social Diversity (Fundacja na rzecz Różnorodności Społecznej-FRS) in 2007, for which she was distinguished with the Polcul Foundation Award in 2017. She co-created the short documentary film series, Migrant Narratives (Narracje Migrantów), which serves as an educational tool for trainers, teachers and educators. Her work on racism and equality was recognized by the Government Plenipotentiary for Equality within the Media and Equality Program (Media Równych Szans, 2012). Kasia advises and mentors other NGO’s on fundraising, management, and growth strategy and development, most recently within the Humanity in Action Kickstarter Program.

Within the BJP, Kasia is a member of the Advisory Board and leads fundraising efforts. She also coordinates the BJP Scholarship and Educational Support Program and supports the work of the Direct Support Team.

Kasia received her PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) – University of London.

Arlo Wat

(they/she)

Arlo is a non-binary activist and artist of Polish and Senegalese background, who is committed to combating racism and discrimination. They have experience in online marketing, social media and communications management, as well as events organization, with a focus on equality and antiracism topics in Poland. Arlo is also a model and has participated in public campaigns to fight discrimination against queer individuals and other social minorities.

Within the BJP, Arlo is part of the Social Media and Communications Team.

Beyond their professional and activist roles, Arlo leads Afro dance classes and dedicates their free time to nurturing their senses through drawing, playing musical instruments, and writing poetry.

Arlo’s educational background is in tourism and events organisation.

Suzi Andreis is a feminist-queer sports activist and co-founder of the “Chrząszczyki” sports club, the first LBT+ sports organization in Poland. Through the club, she has spearheaded numerous initiatives and events to improve access to sports, particularly soccer, for individuals facing cultural barriers. Among these projects is the Womxn’s* Soccer Academy, a soccer school for FLINTA individuals that has been running since 2012.

Beyond her work in sports, Suzi has been actively involved in various queer-feminist grassroots movements, including co-organizing Warsaw’s Womxn’s Day Manifa.

She also realizes herself as a photographer, documenting events and street protests.

At BJP, she oversees the financial administration of the project.

Agnieszka Lange

(she/her)

Agnieszka is a social worker, educator and activist. She has collaborated with organizations that focus on the well-being of children and teenagers, cultural exchange of youth and alternative education. She has coordinated and led workshops and projects for kids, teenagers, and young adults (e.g. on diversity, art, self-development, and communication skills). She is passionate about sailing, visual arts and psychology.

Within the BJP, Agnieszka is a member of the Direct Support Team where she focuses on training initiatives, coordinates legal aid, and helps develop the BJP community-building activities. She also coordinates the BJP volunteer program.

Agnieszka completed a degree in cultural studies (University of Adam Mickiewicz) and the social arts (the University of Warsaw) and curatorial practice (the University of Bologna). Additionally, she completed the first certificate in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.

Dajana Samuels

(she/her)

Dajana is a versatile creative professional with a passion for technology, music, design, and activism. Her diverse interests and her commitment to her work reflect her dedication to making a positive impact through her creative endeavors.

With over seven years of experience in the field of marketing, Dajana has honed her skills as a social media specialist, graphic designer, and video maker. Dajana is also an accomplished DJ and music producer, actively organizing events across Poland.

Within the BJP, Dajana leverages her expertise in marketing and content creation to lead the Social Media and Communications Team.

Dajana holds a BA degree in Graphics and an MA in Media creation from the University of SWPS.

Karolina Doneth Francisco

(she/her)

Karolina is an artist, sociologist and educator with a passion for working with children and youth.

Karolina’s experience is in creative education that focuses on children and aims to teach in the spirit of equality and inclusion. As an artist, Karolina is a singer, performer and member of The Fentress Experience Singers.

Within the BJP, Karolina is Project Coordinator. In this role, she works to make sure that everyone feels good in the BJP community, and that Black and Afro-descendant communities in Poland grow stronger and more visible.

Karolina graduated from Artes Liberales Program and Interdisciplinary Studies in Discourse at the University of Warsaw. Her academic interests are in the identity of multicultural people, issues related to national belonging and broadly understood racism.

Róż Różyński

(they/them)

Róż is a queer-feminist curator, facilitator, designer, and producer. Róż nurtures creative processes that are focused on changing social attitudes and countering exclusion. They co-create holistic and transformative spaces that invite participants to connect with their inner power and enact more sustainable ways of being.

Róż co-founded the Open Institute, an academy for artists and activists from diverse cultural backgrounds in Poland, and co-created the School of Antiracist Practices, which was developed by new visions under the BJP umbrella.

Currently, Róż is the external comms lead at the Ulex Project.

For over 15 years, Róż has been involved in social protests and initiatives, including: the “Black Protests” for women’s rights in Poland, anti-capitalist protests, as well as initiatives in defence of LGBTQ+ people and people on the move, Queer Fest as well as ecological justice actions in defence of the Białowieża Forest in Poland.

Oghele (Ogi) Ugonoh

(she/her)

Social activist and digital creator.

She is the co-founder of the Alliance for Black Justice in Poland and of the educational Instagram platform @blackispolish. She graduated from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dublin.

She is the author of two short films on anti-racist themes, as well as the campaign To my, Polacy (We, the Poles), which reached millions of viewers.

Członek Zarządu SPPA, urodzony i wychowujący się w Polsce, Polak pochodzenia Nigeryjskiego. Współinicjator i uczestnik procesu podnoszenia świadomości społecznej. W pracy antydyskryminacyjnej, od ponad dekady tworzy i prowadzi szkolenia dla młodzieży szkolnej, akademickiej, oraz grona pedagogicznego. Występuje w charakterze samorzecznika, czerpiąc z doświadczeń własnych, rzetelnego przygotowania merytorycznego, oraz indywidualnie wypracowanych metod z zakresu mind fullness.

Uczestnik “żywej biblioteki”, debat i spotkań nt; rasizmu, wykluczenia społecznego i ich konsekwencji. Współautor opracowania “Rasizm Po Polsku”. Na stałe współpracuje z Polska Akcja Humanitarna, Fundacja Na Rzecz Różnorodności Społecznej, Alliance for Black Justice in Poland. Współpracował też z organizacjami: Nomada, Artonomia, Fundacja Sam Rozkwit, oraz wieloma innymi podmiotami.

Born in Senegal, he came to Poland in 1983 to study. He holds a PhD in Veterinary Science, and is a musician, former radio presenter, and cultural animator.
He is the author of several publications, including Mała książka o rasizmie (A Small Book on Racism, Czarna Owca, 2011), and co-author of Afryka w Warszawie (Africa in Warsaw, Fundacja Afryka Inaczej, 2010).
For many years, he led multicultural education workshops in schools and cultural institutions.
He currently works at the National Institute of Rural Culture and Heritage.
